What does the Counseling Department offer to students?

Counselors advise students on course selection, educational goals, and career planning. Counselors also assist if a student faces a challenge or problem that interferes with school. Other staff members and resources available to help include our principal, assistant principals, school psychologist, nurse, librarian, support groups, and peer helpers.

How do I see my Counselor?

Students may come to the Counseling Office before school or during lunch to schedule an appointment with their counselor. Students should fill out our  GOLD  "Request to Meet with Counselor" form available at the office counter.

**In the event of a personal emergency, students should request a pass to the Counseling Office from their teacher.**

Student Assistance For Everyone (SAFE)

Trained teachers and student services personnel lead support groups which provide a safe, supportive environment for kids to talk about issues in their lives. The SAFE team also provides substance abuse intervention, parenting education, and is trained to respond to crisis situations. Referrals to the SAFE Team may be made through the Counseling Office. Unplugged Group is one of the support groups we offer. If a student is recommended to an Unplugged Group, a parent permission slip is sent home with the student. Please contact your student's counselor to discuss any questions or concerns.

Schedule Change Policy

As the year progresses, a situation may develop in which a student, parent, or teacher feels a schedule change is appropriate. Schedule changes are inherently disruptive to students, teachers, and others involved, and are only considered after other options have been explored. Counselors are available to help students, parents, and teachers work through conflicts.

Changes to class schedules for health or medical reasons must be requested through the Health Office.
